The Witches Wheel
Witches Wheel of the Year
New Year's Eve, for Wiccans, is on Samhain, October 31st. The year is marked by 8 days, which are part of the cycle of death and rebirth. Samhain marks the beginning of the "death" period, where the earth is shrouded in darkness, waiting for rebirth and sunlight. The exact dates of the Solstices and Equinoxes change according to the year. In the below diagram, the cycle is shown. It may take a while to load up, but it's worth it!

Winter Solstice, December 20-23: Marks the edge of darkness and the coming spring
